What is Impatien downey mildew blight?
Downey Mildew is a host-specific pathogen that has attacked impatiens and boxwoods in the US and in Europe as of Spring 2012. Many growers are not growing impatiens and it maybe a few years until you see them in the marketplace. Out recommendation is do not plant impatiens this year. If you do, the spores will stay in the soil and can cause future probelms. A good subsitute is New Guinea Impatiens, which are not affected and Begonias, either the wax leaf or the Dragon Wing.
